Association for Professional Counseling in Schools

APCS Mission Statement

The Association for Professional Counseling in Schools (APCS) advocates for professional counseling services in schools, including individual and group counseling, consulting and collaborating relationships, diagnostic assessment, and program development. This advocacy is founded on the premise that students who receive appropriate assistance to handle personal, social, career, and academic issues and challenges will more likely meet with success in their overall educational development. The APCS provides and fosters professional development for counselors who serve students, families, and educators in schools. At the same time, it endorses preparation standards and certification and licensure processes sanctioned by the counseling profession (such as, the Council for Accreditation and Related Educational Programs, the National Board of Certified Counselors, State Licensing Boards, and American Counseling Association). APCS encourages and publicizes research to verify effective programs, interventions, and strategies used in the ethical practice of counseling and related services in schools and other educational settings.
