Note from the President
Hello everyone and happy spring! I wanted to take a minute and touch base on several areas.
First, I want to thank Dr. Susan Furr who facilitated our spring business meeting during the NCCA conference in February. All of the discussion and ideas were welcomed and know that NCACES continues to offer its support in NCCA as the various licensing and political issues are addressed.
Second, I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Hank Harris from UNC Charlotte will be our incoming president of NCACES for the 2008-2009 term. Dr. Peggy Whiting is President-elect. I look forward to working with both of them as we start to plan for our fall drive-in conference.
Third, after our fall drive-in conference, NCCA is very proud to be co-sponsoring ACA 2009 in Charlotte, NC. The dates of the conference will be March 19- 23, 2009 in uptown Charlotte. The main conference hotel will be the Westin and the presentations will be in the Convention Center which is across the street. There are some details that I want to highlight, some that were mentioned in the letter sent out by the president of NCCA, Liz Conroy.
- As you know, ACA is currently running it's first early bird special for registration for the conference. The rates are $149 for students and $199 for professionals and last through the end of March.
- ACA has agreed to allow all NCCA members, including student members, who are not ACA members to still register for the ACA Charlotte conference at the member rate
- I strongly encourage all students currently in programs who are going to attend the ACA Charlotte conference to consider applying to be a volunteer for the conference. It requires up to a 12 hour commitment on their part that could include stuffing conference totes, helping at the registration booth, or assisting presenters in the presentation rooms. If students are selected as volunteers and this is their first time volunteering at an ACA conference, ACA will reimburse the students 50% of whatever they payed for their registration. If it is their second or more time volunteering, then ACA will reimburse 100% of their registration. I think this is a wonderful opportunity to highlight what wonderful students we have in our counseling programs here in NC!!!
As I begin the last portion of my term as president of NCACES, I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for your continued support and involvement in NCACES. As always, we are open to feedback and suggestions about how we can better respond to the needs of counselor education and supervision in the state of North Carolina. It has been an honor for me to serve NCACES this year.
Sincerely,
Clarrice

NCACES Conference a Success!
The NC ACES conference this October was a wonderful success!!! Many thanks go out to all who contributed, participated, and shared in this conference!!!! With participants from over 10 universities, we had an exciting mix of topics and conversations about current issues affecting supervision and counseling today. Our much appreciated conference facilities at Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory were spacious, comfortable, and technologically equipped thus saving presenters from having to carry their own laptops and projectors. We held important dialogue during the fall NC ACES business meeting prior to the start of the conversation where issues included the current state of counseling and mental health services in NC and how we can more actively support counseling at the state level.
Our next business meeting will be held during the annual NCCA conference this spring. From all of us at NC ACES, have a wonderful and safe winter season and Happy New Year!
