Development Association
"Best Practices" Grant – 2009
Purpose: The North Carolina Career Development Association (NCCDA) has created the "Best Practices" grant in order to support the development of new career-related programs, research, or practices in North Carolina. Up to $1,000 will be awarded annually to help finance innovation in the area of career development, which might include:
- New programs or services for your population
- New equipment or technology to aid the work you do
- Research in the field of career development, assessment, and/or career education
- New marketing techniques to increase service utilization
Amount: Up to $1,000
Due Date: Post-marked by March 31, 2009
Eligibility: Applicants must be residents of North Carolina or students in a North Carolina Post Secondary Institution. Applicants must be members of the North Carolina Career Development Association or submit a membership application and annual dues to the association with the best practices grant application.
Criteria for awarding funds:
- Purpose of the study/program relates to the mission of NCCDA (see http://www.nccounseling.org/NCCDA/)
- Topic is pertinent to the NC workforce
- Program or research is original in the field of career development, or would be a new addition to your workplace that would significantly improve the service you deliver
- Application is well-written, clearly evidencing how this would enhance the field of career development or your service delivery
Written proposal should include the following:
- Purpose and significance of the project/innovation
- Statement of how this would benefit NC citizens' career development
- Procedure for implementation
- Timeline
- Itemized Budget
- Current Resume or CV
- Proof of membership to NCCDA or membership application with annual dues
- Letter of recommendation from a person familiar with your work.
In addition, include these components
If research:
- Title/Topic of Study
- Statement of Hypothesis
- Research Method: Subjects, Instruments, and Materials
- Research Design and Procedure
- Bibliography of Literature Reviewed
If program/practice:
- Staff/personnel involved in implementation
- Proof of program approval, if needed from institution
- Brief review of whether/how other institutions have used similar programs and their effectiveness
Some examples of proposals might include:
- Developing a method for NCCDA to more successfully reach out to counselor education graduate students
- Research studying the relationship between social class, the meaning of work in people's lives, and life satisfaction
- Developing podcasts for your campus
- Surveying NCCDA membership to determine needs and demographics
- Research on individuals' approach to retirement and how counselors can assist
- Development of a means of sharing "best practices" on NCCDA's website
The North Carolina Career Development Association (NCCDA) is comprised of professionals engaged in the field of career counseling and development. NCCDA is organized and governed in accordance with the by-laws of the National Career Development Association (NCDA). NCCDA is a division of the North Carolina Counseling Association. The mission of NCCDA is to promote the career development of all people over the life span. The recipient will present her/his findings to the NCCDA Board who will determine the appropriateness for future conference presentations. In addition, the recipient will include a statement of acknowledgement for any publications and presentations funded fully or in part through this grant.
